Spencer Martin, Luther College associate professor of music, and Jessica Paul, Luther professor of music, will perform a faculty viola and piano recital at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19 in the Noble Recital Hall of the Jenson-Noble Music Hall on the Luther campus.
The recital is open to the public with no charge for admission.
The program will feature Brenno Blauth's "Sonata for Viola and Piano," Johannes Brahms' "Sonatensatz," Benjamin Dale's "Romance" and Paul Hindemith's Sonata in F Major, Op. 11. No. 4 for viola and piano.
Martin holds degrees from Butler University, Wichita State University and the University of Minnesota. He has performed and taught at music festivals throughout the U.S., Canada, Israel and Europe as both violist and conductor.
Martin's CD, "Gems Rediscovered," was released on the Delos label in spring 2012 and features lesser-known works for viola and piano by Ernest Walker, Paul Juon, Robert Fuchs and Benjamin Dale. Spencer can also be heard on the Innova label on the disc "Waves of Stone, Music by Brooke Joyce."
Paul holds the bachelor's degree from Northwestern University and the master's and doctorate's degrees from the University of Illinois.
She is the former Principal Conductor and Artistic Director of the Dorian Opera Theatre and worked with such opera companies as the Pittsburgh Opera Theatre, Opera Theatre of Illinois, National Opera Company, Cleveland Opera Theatre, Virginia Opera Association, Lake George Opera Festival, Cedar Rapids Opera and Pine Mountain Music Festival.
