Kristen Wigley-Fleming Fine Arts Gallery, Center for the Arts
February 7 - March 14, 2018
The Welcome Project at Valparaiso University began collecting audio and video stories in 2009. We pair stories with conversation, using the Center for Civic Reflection’s facilitation practice, to help participants forge relationships within their communities. Over time, the crucial role of listening has emerged: in interviews, we listen to learn; in editing, we listen to understand; in facilitating, we listen to connect ourselves and others. We envision a world in which people are curious about and actively seek to engage those who are different than themselves. With the help of hundreds of students and in collaboration with many colleagues and community partners, we have grown to encompass three initiatives: our ever-evolving campus collection, the Invisible Project, and Flight Paths.
Creators involved with the traveling exhibit featured in the Kristen Wigley-Fleming Fine Arts Gallery include: Shiqi Guo, Ning Shen, Zhinsheng hao, Sarhang Sherwany, Patricia Andrews Jacobs, Zhen Tong, Rob Lee, Meaz Muslafa, Ge qin, Zhiying Ruan, Yixi (Rosie)want, Jack Wulbert, Wanlu Zhou, Zinah Zhu, and Professor Yeohyun Ahn (art director of student design at Valparaiso University).
