Carl Homstad

Originally from Colorado, Carl Homstad has lived and worked in Decorah since arriving as a student at Luther College, where he earned a BA in art in 1973. Additional studies have taken him to Europe, China, Japan and New Zealand, all locations that are represented in his Great Places exhibit.  His work has been shown in several venues, including the MacNider Museum of Art in Mason City, IA; Vesterheim Museum in Decorah; the Fanny Garver Gallery, Madison, WI; the Iowa Artisans Gallery, Iowa City, IA; and the Lakes Art Center, Okaboji, IA. His artwork has appeared in the books Building with Cob, Carpenter of Song by Michael Carey, Art of the State: Iowa, and Murals of Iowa. He has also been featured in National Geographic, and on Iowa Public Television's Living in Iowa show. He has judged regional and national art shows and worked with Iowa Arts Council programs, including the Artist in the Schools. His outdoor murals can be found in numerous locations throughout Iowa.
