"Hateful Things"

Center for Faith and Life
February 12 - March 2, 2018

Hateful Things contains nearly 40 objects from the Jim Crow Museum of Racist Memorabilia at Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan. Objects range from games and toys to commercial products and references to lynchings, all of which represent the dehumanization of African-Americans or promote racial stereotypes. Support for the show is provided by Luther Galleries, Africana Studies, the Center for Ethics and Public Engagement, the Diversity Center, the Religion Department, the English Department, and the Dean's Office. David Pilgrim, Curator of the Jim Crow Museum, will present a lecture to coincide with the exhibit on February 18 at 4pm in CRH. Two distinguished lectures will follow the show, including Matthew Boger (March 6) and Daryl Davis (March 8). Information on lectures can be found on our distinguished lectures page. More detailed information about the Hateful Things exhibit, as well as images of the work that will be on display, can be found on the Ferris State University traveling exhibitions page.
