Center for Faith and Life
April 12 - May 19, 2013
There will be a Gallery Reception held on Wednesday April 17, 2013 from 4:30 - 6:00 p.m. in the Center for Faith and Life. All are welcome to attend.
John Snyder is a graduate of The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and creates art through painting, drawing, printmaking and sculpture. His work is grounded in a so-called “Church of the Unknown” which reflects a personal mythology that draws on several sources, including self-taught art, Christian iconography, pre-Renaissance Italian frescoes, Buddhist cave paintings, and African and Oceania imagery. His most recent showing was a 2013 exhibit entitled Hello at the Bockley Gallery in Minneapolis. He has also had solo exhibitions at the North Dakota Museum of Art, Grand Forks; the Asheville Art Museum, Asheville, NC; the Carl Hammer Gallery, Chicago; The John Michael Kohler Arts Center, Kohler, WI; and the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art, Cedar Rapids, IA. He recently moved to Decorah, IA. While living in Minnesota, he was the recipient of grants and awards from the Minnesota State Arts Board, the McKnight Foundation, and the Bush Foundation.
All of the works on display have been created during the past few weeks and the exhibition will continue to evolve over time. Watch for additional works that may be added during the course of the exhibit.
