Douglas Beasley received a BFA from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor where he also studied Eastern Religions and Native American culture. His work has been exhibited in several venues such as the New York Open Center, New York, NY; Minnesota Center for Photography, Minneapolis, MN; and Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, MN. A permanent installation of Beasley’s work resides in the Castile D’Albertis Cultural Museum, in Genoa, Italy. Beasley has been featured in numerous photo magazines such as Zoom, The Sun, B&W, PDN and PhotoVision. Several books feature Beasley’s works, including two of his own: Japan, A Neisei’s First Encounter and Earth Meets Spirit. Beasley leads workshops at art and cultural centers across the United States and in Ireland, Peru, Italy, Guatemala, Norway, Japan, and China. He founded and directs the Vision Quest Photo Workshops in St. Paul, MN and Trade River, WI. In addition, Beasley has been an instructor at the University of Hawaii in Honolulu, HI; Carleton College, Northfield, MN; and University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, MN. He has received grants from the McKnight Foundation in Minneapolis, MN and the Minnesota Center for Photography, and served as the President of the Board of Directors for the Midwest Media Artists Access Center (MMAC) in St. Paul, MN.
