Founded in 1979, Christians in the Visual Arts (CIVA) is the premier Christian Arts non-profit organization in the country, with over 1500 members and a mailing list of 6.5000 that connects artists, scholars, the church and culture.  CIVA encourages Christians in the visual arts to develop their callings to the highest possible level; to learn how to deal with specific problems in the field without compromising either faith or standards or artistic endeavor; to provide opportunities for sharing work and ideas; to foster understanding, trust, and a cooperative relationship between those in the arts, the church and society; and ultimately, to support a Christian presence within the art world.  Those goals are accomplished in a variety of ways, including publications and conferences, networking, artist registries, workshops, study tours, and traveling exhibitions.
