SUMMARY:Chapel
DESCRIPTION:Dia De Los Muertos Chapel \nDay of the Dead is an important celebration for Mexican and Latino people\, in which we remember\, honor\, and pray for our loved ones who have passed away. \nPeople in Mexico make richly decorated altars in their homes\, cemeteries and churches\, to remember and pray for the souls of the faithful departed. The deceased loved ones are remembered with offerings of food\, drinks\, photos\, and objects that the person enjoyed in life. These things are laid out on the altar table. Day of the Dead prayers remember the legacy and good deeds of our ancestors as we pray for them and with them. \nYou are invited to bring a picture or memento of a loved one to add to the Ofrenda during the chapel service (an “ofrenda” is an altar or display that honors deceased loved ones during the Mexican celebration of Día de los Muertos\, or Day of the Dead). \nThe whole Luther community is invited to join us for chapel break\, in-person or online\, regardless of faith tradition or background. Connect to our livestream or come in person! This time is intentionally set aside for you to pause and connect — we hope to see you! \nWorship leaders: Latines Unides \nMusic: Collegiate Chorale \nLocation: Union Lobby \nFor more on College Ministries \nStream Chapel and Other College Ministries Events

SUMMARY:Price Lecture: Leadership Institute for Indigenous and Afro-descendent Women from Latin America
DESCRIPTION:Every year\, the Center for Latin American Studies at the University of Arizona hosts two highly select groups of Indigenous and Afro-descendent women between the ages of 18 and 24 from different Latin American countries for the Study of the United States Institute (SUSI)\, funded by the US Department of State. In this talk\, the director of the Institute\, Dr. Marcela Vásquez-León\, will reflect on her decade long experience mentoring these students. She will focus on how the program is a transformational site in which the participants envision and build a sense of intersectional feminism along the lines of what feminist Lelia Gonzalez has called amefricanidade (amefricanity)\, creating networks of solidarity that go beyond the program. At the same time\, challenges and contradictions arise given the ways in which the institute itself is situated in the larger geopolitics of U.S./Latin American relations.

SUMMARY:Senior Presentation: Crossing Borders: From Timor-Leste to a Post-Brexit World
DESCRIPTION:This presentation follows a personal and global journey from Timor-Leste to the United Kingdom\, exploring how one of the world’s youngest nations connects to one of Europe’s most defining political moments — Brexit. Through stories\, observations\, and research on immigration\, economics\, and identity\, Jose Eliano reflects on how Brexit affected Timorese communities living and working in the UK through Portuguese citizenship. The talk invites audiences to consider how global decisions can shape opportunities\, belonging\, and the movement of people — even in places as distant as Timor-Leste. \nOpen to students\, faculty\, and community members interested in global affairs\, migration\, and the experiences of Timorese people abroad. Sponsored by the International Studies Department.

DESCRIPTION:Renascence tells the captivating story of young Edna St. Vincent Millay’s transformation from small-town Maine poet to New York literary sensation. At just 18\, Millay writes her masterpiece “Renascence”—a profound meditation on suffering\, rebirth\, and the interconnectedness of all life—launching her extraordinary journey from rural obscurity to fame. This musical explores the power of art to transcend restrictions and the human struggle between confinement and freedom\, death and renewal. \nIn the weeks leading up to the performance\, find tickets at the Luther Ticket Office or at tickets.luther.edu.

SUMMARY:One Team Day 2025
DESCRIPTION:Launched in 2020\, One Team Day highlights the importance of athletics and student-athletes within the Luther community. \nLet’s go all in for Norse athletics!\nOn One Team Day\, we rally behind our student-athletes to make their experience at Luther exceptional. Luther student-athletes are champions on and off the field—in practice\, competition\, and in the classroom. Funds raised on One Team Day go directly to help Luther’s student-athletes as they work hard\, inspire one another\, and uphold the proud traditions established by decades of Luther teammates. \nThis year brings even more opportunity to shape the future of Norse athletics with the renovations of the Gerdin Fieldhouse. The Gerdin Fieldhouse renovation is an investment in all Luther students to have access to modern athletic facilities\, gathering spaces\, and revitalized locker rooms. Now is the time to step up our game and create highly competitive facilities to match our highly competitive teams. \nOne Team. Two Goals. All In.\nWe’re calling on all Norse fans to go all in on Luther’s sixth annual One Team Day to support current teams and the future Gerdin Fieldhouse. With your help\, we can power both today’s teams and the future Gerdin Fieldhouse. This historical opportunity can be made possible by proud supporters of Norse athletics like you. \nAnd what’s more: your gift to your favorite team(s) on One Team Day will be matched by our generous challenge sponsors! \n  \nI’m all in for Norse athletics! \nWays You Can Join the Fun\nOn One Team Day\, participation is what matters. Here are some ways you can join in the fun\, no matter where you reside on the globe: \n\nShare your Norse pride: Use your own social media platforms to share your support and what you love about Norse Athletics\, and make sure you tag Luther College Athletics.\nMake your gift: Visit luther.edu/one-team-day anytime during the 24 hours of November 20 to make your gift count on One Team Day.\nTrack each sport’s success: Go to luther.edu/one-team-day on November 20 to follow the action all day long.\nAttend the One Team Day celebration: Join us at Impact Coffee from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. on November 20. If you live in the area\, join other alumni\, parents\, coaches\, and fans of Norse Athletics for light refreshments\, a cash bar\, and time to celebrate all the good Norse Athletics does for student-athletes and our community. This free event is sponsored by Impact Coffee.\n\nEvery gift supports the grit\, spirit\, and excellence of Norse athletics—in competition\, as they train\, and for generations to come. Go Norse!

SUMMARY:Guest Talk: Building Community and Spotting Chameleons - Experiencing rural Madagascar as a Peace Corps Volunteer
DESCRIPTION:Join Returned Peace Corps Volunteer and Luther alum Becca Buse ’19 for a talk encapsulating their experience as a Peace Corps volunteer in Madagascar 2023-25\, followed by lunch in the Luther Cafeteria. \nMadagascar is the fourth largest island on earth and extremely biodiverse—famous for lemurs\, chameleons\, and baobab trees. Madagascar also faces poverty\, lack of infrastructure (11% paved roads)\, and inconsistent access to water and electricity. As a Peace Corps Volunteer\, Becca focused on three areas of community building: training local farmers to increase sustainable agriculture practices\, co-teaching mothers to improve nutrition\, and educating community members to protect the local Tapia forest environment. While all Peace Corps experiences abroad are unique to each volunteer\, Becca will also have time to answer general questions about applying to the peace corps\, different types of service\, and living abroad. Additionally\, Becca has been selected as a Rotary Peace Fellow and will begin a master’s in Peace and Conflict Studies (MPaC) at the University of Queensland\, Brisbane Australia in February of 2026. At the end of the talk you will get a chance to spot a chameleon. It isn’t as easy as you’d think! \n*People joining for lunch will need to pay for their own cafeteria entry.

SUMMARY:Music Senior Project Showcase
DESCRIPTION:8:00 – 8:30 p.m. Michael Van Meter\, “Rocks in My Life” \nThis presentation will explain the compositional process behind my song “Rocks in My Life\,” which I will officially release at commencement on my upcoming album\, Rocks and Words. I will discuss my creative process\, the sound equipment and techniques that I used\, and the influence of samba on my work. The presentation will include a walkthrough of my digital audio workstation\, as well as demonstrations of how to play Brazilian percussion instruments. \n  \n8:30 – 9:00 p.m. Sophie Klein\, “Enrique Granados’ Goyescas: How Madrid’s Eighteenth-Century Majismo Became A Narrative Piano Suite” \nThis presentation will examine Enrique Granados’(1867-1916) synthesis of some of the artworks of Francisco de Goya (1746-1828)\, as well as majismo in the piano suite Goyescas. Majismo was a culture present in the lower classes in eighteenth-century Madrid\, featuring performative courtships between men (majos) and women (majas). This cultural phenomenon has been subject to romanticization due to the gallant and underhanded nature of majismo relationships. I will analyze Granados’ constructed majismo narrative through Spanish musical traits\, leitmotifs\, and careful musical illustrations. I will demonstrate this narrative by playing recordings of various musical examples from the suite. \nThis event is free. Music majors and music minors are eligible for 1 music event attendance for attending this event.
