SUMMARY:Where Do Your Tax Dollars Go?
DESCRIPTION:Government spending is more than numbers on a spreadsheet. It shapes economic opportunity\, public investment\, and the future our generation will inherit. \nJoin us for a conversation on U.S. fiscal policy and its real-world impact. We will explore how government spending decisions are made\, why elections matter for the economy\, and how global events affect national priorities and budgets at home. \nThis session will break down complex policy questions into clear\, accessible insights and create space for students to ask questions about the economic forces shaping their future. Come for the food\, stay for the conversation. \nFree pizza\, drinks\, and giveaways.

SUMMARY:Histories of Resistance in Times of Oppression
DESCRIPTION:If you have been participating in\, reading about\, thinking about\, or training for resistance to governmental actions that you consider oppressive\, this panel is a chance to learn from three previous examples of civic engagement in order to identify and modify oppressive policies and practices. Join history professors Mark Guerci\, Richard Mtisi\, Anna Peterson\, and Brian Caton for a moderated panel discussion. \n\nProf. Guerci will discuss the implementation of\, and resistance to\, the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850.\nProf. Mtisi will introduce us to the forms of resistance adopted by those who fought against apartheid in South Africa.\nProf. Peterson will detail how Germans resisted Nazism in the 1930s and 1940s.\nProf. Caton will examine how people resisted British colonial rule in India.\n\nEach panelist will give a brief presentation\, followed by a short discussion amongst the panelists. Audience members are invited to join a Q&A session to round out the event.
