DESCRIPTION:Singers of all ages and backgrounds are invited to learn a simple gospel arrangement to be performed at the Martin Luther King Jr. Day keynote address. The community choir will be led by Andrew Last\, director of choral activities at Luther. SUMMARY:Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day lecture: Bishop Yehiel Curry
DESCRIPTION:The Rev. Yehiel Curry\, Presiding Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America\, will offer keynote remarks at Luther’s 2026 Martin Luther King Jr. Day lecture. The theme is “Courage for the Common Good.” \nFollowing Curry’s address\, there is an optional community lunch at noon for attendees\, and two sessions are planned for the afternoon at 1:15 p.m.: a youth discussion with Curry\, and a panel discussion with regional ELCA bishops for all others. \nThe event is open to the public\, and admission to the morning program and the afternoon break-out sessions are free. Lunch tickets for adults are $10\, but free for youth who are registered for the youth session. DESCRIPTION:The Rev. Yehiel Curry\, Presiding Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America\, will offer keynote remarks at Luther College’s 2026 Martin Luther King Jr. Day lecture at 10:30 a.m. on Monday\, Jan. 19\, 2026\, in the Center for Faith and Life Main Hall. \nParticipants will be invited to share and reflect on what “Courage for the Common Good” might look like in their own lives and relationships over a shared meal. During the lunch hour\, a variety of drop-in youth activities will be available in Marty’s\, located in the lower level Union. Students are encouraged to come by before or after eating. \nLunch tickets should be purchased in advance. The cost is $10 for adults and free for children and youth.
