Luther came up a bit short in Pella this afternoon and was defeated by Central by a final of 94-90. The Dutch put together two runs, the first a 10-0 and the second an 11-4, that extended their lead to 10 at the midway point and 11 with a little over three minutes left in the game. Luther battled back and pulled to within three (91-88), thanks to a James Kappus three-pointer, but free throws down the stretch secured the victory for the Dutch. Central ended the afternoon making 21 of 29 attempts from the charity stripe including 11 of 14 down the stretch.
Four Luther players tally double digits led by Spencer Sturges who scored a career high 21 points. Kappus finished with 11, while Jadyn Torres and Jared Nicolaisen both chipped in 10.
Central's Shimar Jones and Jamal McKnight led all scorers with 23 and 21 respectively.
The loss gives Luther an American Rivers Conference record of 1-13, 7-15 overall. Central improved to 5-9 in the A-R-C, 8-14 overall.
Luther will wrap up its season next week. The Norse travel to Loras College on Wednesday, Feb. 13, and then they host Nebraska Wesleyan University of Saturday, Feb. 16.
