Luther College Associate Professor of Art Ben Moore presents his art show "Lie To Me" from November 5 to January 24 at the Wigley Fleming Art Gallery on the Luther campus. Moor’s current work explores the sublime. His goal is to art depict a place so supernatural that it transports the viewer away from Earth while their feet never leave the ground.
Moore teaches in the visual and performing arts department. His areas of specialty are painting, drawing, foundations and digital media. Moore earned his bachelor's degree from Luther and his Master of Fine Arts from the University of Iowa. He also studied printmaking and drawing at the Scuola Internazionale di Grafica in Venice, Italy, during his graduate study.
For his sabbatical project, Moore spent the fall of 2017 in the rural countryside of the United Kingdom. Paintings from this project are meant to reference imagery about memory, rather than depicting the actual physical attributes of places themselves. While abroad, Moore was led to the coastal hills and cliffs of England, where according to his artist statement, "The ethereal ceased to hold weight. The powerful content that previously enraptured Moore became an assumption, and inflation of the supernatural. While not discounting the wonder of the landscape, the fantastical turned out to be ultimately normal, becoming sublimely picturesque."
