Luther lost its American Rivers Conference season opener tonight to Simpson College by a final of 94-69. The Storm blistered the nets shooting 55.6% that included a 15-of-29 performance from behind the three-point line. The Storm led 55-27 at halftime, but Luther outscored Simpson 42-39 in the second frame.
Jared Nicolaisen, Rahul Bagga and Gage Thompson led the Norse attack. Nicolaisen scored a team best 15, followed by Bagga and Thompson with 14 and 11 respectively. Nicolaisen also led the team with six rebounds.
Simpson entered the game averaging 86 points a game and had five players tally double digits. Conor Riordan (17) led all scorers and was followed by Adam Reiter (15), Kyle Wagner (14), Nick Janssen (11) and John Barbee (10). Reiter posted a double-double collecting a game high 12 rebounds.
The loss gives Luther an overall record of 2-3. Simpson improved to 1-1 in the A-R-C, 5-2 overall.
Luther will host the University of Dubuque this Wednesday, Dec. 5. Start time is slated for 8:00 p.m.
