Coe College snapped Luther's three-game win streak, defeating the Norse 60-46 this afternoon in the Regents Center. Luther's 46 points was its lowest point production since the second game of last year, when it was defeated by Washington-St. Louis 45-68 Nov. 17, 2017.
Luther scored the first four points of the game, but was outscored 14-0 in the final five minutes of the first quarter. The Kohawks took their first lead (5-4) with 5:10 left in the first frame and never lost the lead the remainder of the game. Luther outscored Coe 15-10 in the second quarter and trailed 24-19 at halftime. Coe won quarters three and four 16-10 and 20-17 respectively.
Luther was frigid from the field shooting 26.2%. The Norse were 16-of-61 and 9-of-19 from the charity stripe. Coe finished the game shooting 40.9% and also won the battle of the boards 46-32.
Laura Hamilton was the only player in double digits for the Norse finishing with 14 points. Anna Edel and Sarah Holtz were next with nine points each.
Coe's Destiny Smith recorded a double-double scoring 14 points and collecting 12 rebounds. Jackie Feldt added 13 points and Sydney Schroder was credited with 10.
The loss gives Luther an American Rivers Conference record of 8-3, 9-9 overall. Coe won its third game in a row and is now 7-5 in league play, 13-8 overall.
Next week, Luther has three games on the schedule, two that are on the road. The week begins with a trip to Simpson College on Monday, Feb. 4. Wednesday, Feb. 6 the Norse will host league leading Knights of Wartburg College and finish the week at Central College on Saturday, Feb. 9.
