Luther posted its second win in a row, defeating Buena Vista University 69-66 this afternoon in Siebens Fieldhouse.
The Norse led by as many as 17 points in the first half, but found themselves in a battle late in the fourth frame. Buena Vista's Holly Schneider, who finished the afternoon with 16 points, knocked down a three-pointer with seven minutes left in the game, to give the Beavers their second lead of the contest since they made the opening basket and led 2-0. The Beavers extended their lead to four, only to see Luther level the score 66-66 with 1:28 remaining. Laura Hamilton scored what proved to be the game winner, assisted by Sarah Holtz, with 51 seconds left in the game.
Holtz led the Norse attack producing a career high 20 points. Holtz was 8-of-12 from the field and 3-of-4 from the charity stripe. She fell one rebound shy of posting a double-double collecting a game high nine.
Madison Spence had her best outing of the year scoring 17, while Kaylee Parks chipped in a career high 15. Spence also recorded a career high five blocked shots.
Buena Vista was led by Erin Gerke who led all scorers with 21 points.
The win gives Luther an American Rivers Conference record of 3-1, 4-7 overall. Buena Vista fell to 0-5 in league play, 5-9 overall.
Luther travels to league leading Wartburg College on Wednesday, Jan. 9. Tip-off is slated for 6:00 p.m.
