Luther snapped a three-game skid and improved to 2-1 in American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) play, after defeating Coe College 64-62 in overtime tonight in Cedar Rapids.
Trailing by seven at halftime (29-22), Luther came out in the third frame and outscored Coe 19-6 and held a 41-35 advantage at the end of three frames. The Kohawks battled back and Madeline Wilkins sent the game into overtime with a three-point bucket with six seconds remaining in regulation.
In overtime with the scored tied 62-62, Maggie Anderson stepped to the free throw line for the first time this season and calmly knocked down both attempts to secure the victory with 1.8 seconds left on the clock.
Laura Hamilton led the Norse attack with 19 points. Anna Edel, Sarah Holtz and Erin Saemrow were next with seven points each.
Coe was led by the trio of Jackie Feldt with 19, Wilkins with 17 and Destiny Smith with 11.
The win gives Luther an overall record of 3-7. Coe fell to 2-2 in league play, 7-5 overall.
Luther travels to Buena Vista University this Saturday, Jan. 2. Start time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
