Luther split a double header with Nebraska Wesleyan University this afternoon in Lincoln, but won the three-game series 2-1. Today, Luther won game one 10-5 in 10 innings and lost game two 12-9.
In game one, the Norse pounded out 16 hits. With the game tied 5-5 entering the top half of the 10th, Luther tallied five runs on five hits. Jake Vogt hit a bases loaded double, his second double of the game.
Vogt (3-6), Jake Halverson (3-6), Trent Athmann (2-5), Joe McKibben (3-4) and Derek McCready (3-4) all produced multiple hits.
Nate Loch was credited with the win on the mound in relief. Loch did not allow a run in 1 2/3 innings of work. Tyler Boesel got the start and pitched five full innings, allowed four runs on eight hits. He walked one and struck out nine.
In the nightcap, the Prairie Wolves scored four runs on four hits in the bottom of the sixth en route to the 12-9 come-from-behind victory. The game went seven innings since game one went into extra innings.
Multiple hits were produced by Halverson (3-5), Athmann (2-3) and Mitch Bruggers (2-3). Both Athmann and Bruggers led the team with 2 RBI each.
Following today's action, Luther is 13-7 in the Iowa Conference, 23-11 overall. Nebraska Wesleyan is now 5-15 in the IIAC, 9-23 overall.
Luther will travel to Wartburg College on Monday, April 28 for a single nine innings game starting at 7:00 p.m.
