Luther wrapped up its non-conference schedule with an impressive 78-63 over Mount Mercy University.
Despite shooting 41 percent from the field in the first half, the Norse led at halftime 32-27, thanks to a defensive effort that held the Mustangs to just 10 field goals. In the second stanza, the Norse connected on 50 percent of their attempts and outscored the Mustangs 46-36.
Nellie Nelson led four players who tallied double digits with a game high 21 points. Tayler Jenks was credited with 12, while both Taylor Johnson and Meagan Koepnick both chipped in 11. Jenks led the team with six assists and Nelson and Haley Kirkpatrick both collected a team best five rebounds.
The win gives Luther a record of 9-2 as it begins Iowa Conference play next Wednesday, Jan. 8 at Central College. The loss was the second in a row for Mount Mercy who fell to 11-6 overall.
