NCAA III National Championships

Clare Slagel swam her bonus event during today's first day of the three-day NCAA III National Swimming and Diving Championships. Slagel placed 22nd from the field of 36 competitors in the 500 freestyle Slagel posted a time of 5:01.65, breaking her own school record (5:04.53) by three seconds.

Slagel will return to the pool for the 100 backstroke on Friday and the 200 backstroke on Saturday.

Day Three Results: Clare Slagel earned All-America honors thanks to a fourth place finish in the A Finals of the 100 backstroke. Slagel, the only freshman in the A Finals field, posted a time of 55.72. Celia Oberholzer of Kenyon won the individual title with a new NCAA III record of 53.46.

Slagel qualified for the A Finals with a new school record time of 55.31. She broke her own mark of 55.70.

With this honor, Slagel becomes the third Luther female swimmer to earn individual All-America honors and the first since 2008. 

Slagel will wrap up this year's national finale tomorrow when she will compete in the 200 backstroke.

Day Four Results: Clare Slagel earned All-America honors for the second time placing third in the 200 backstroke tonight. Slagel posted a time of 1:59.40 that was a new school record. Kirsten Nitz of Wheaton College won the individual title clocked at 1:57.30.
