Luther scored two runs in the top of the seventh to secure a hard fought 3-1 victory over Whitworth (WA) this afternoon in Clermont, Fla.
Katie Wieland got the inning started with a triple to right-center. Alice Miller drove in Wieland with a single to right. Miller also drove in a run in the second with a double to right-center. Kelsey Rose completed the seventh driving in Kelsey Weindruch, who reached base on a fielders choice, with a sacrifice fly to center field for the final run of the ball game.
Becca Girvan (5-1) went the distance in the circle. Girvan allowed one run on four hits, walked two and struck out nine.
The win gives Luther an overall record of 9-2. Whitworth fell to 18-14.
