The Luther women’s tennis team hit the road for its third straight match to begin the season and raised its overall record to 2-1 with an 8-1 victory at Buena Vista in Storm Lake, Iowa. The Norse also improved to 1-0 in the Iowa Conference with the road win.
Jenna Myers and Olivia Heitz moved into the No. 1 doubles slot and cruised to an (8-2) win over Haley Henrichs and Kassidy Ipsen to put the Norse on the board. The other two doubles matches proved to be much closer, but Luther pulled out a couple more wins to grab a commanding 3-0 lead heading into singles play. Lola White-Baer and Adriana DePaolis were (8-5) winners against Elizabeth Heffernan and Tasha Nelson at No. 2 while Molly Brown and Kylie Kruse edged Samantha Kavan and Emmerly Mai by a (9-7) margin at No. 3.
Heitz continued her strong play on the singles court with a (6-1, 6-1) win at No. 4 singles, defeating Ipsen. White-Baer clinched the team victory with a (6-1, 6-0) decision against Henrichs at No. 1. Myers also won in routine fashion, beating Nelson (6-1, 6-1) at No. 3. Megan Wachholz won the final five games of the match to earn a (6-3, 6-3) victory against Tarynne Kinghorn at No. 5 while DePaolis outlasted Heffernan (7-6 (6), 6-3)) at No. 2. The Beavers tallied the final point of the day when Kavan knocked off Luther’s Sarah Christopherson (6-2, 4-6, (10-6)) at No. 6.
Luther will begin its home schedule this Saturday, Sept. 7 when it will host Upper Iowa University and St. Benedict’s. The Norse will return to Iowa Conference play with a road match against Wartburg on Sunday, Sept. 8.
