The Luther men’s tennis team wrapped up a busy stretch of competition by traveling to face a nationally ranked squad from Gustavus Adolphus and lost an 8-1 decision to the Gusties.
Aaron Gendron and Tyler Zinnecker earned the lone point for the Norse with an (8-4) win at No. 3 doubles where the duo defeated Bradley Entwistle and Joey MacGibbon. Nick Mozena and James Ayer also played well at No. 2 before falling (8-6) to Daniel Pomeranc and Juan Luis Chu. Gustavus also won at No. 1 to take a 2-1 lead into singles play.
Gendron played well in the opening set of his match against MacGibbon at No. 4, but had to retire with an injury at 5-5 in the first set. Mozena had the tightest match of the day, losing (6-3, 7-6) to Tyler Johnson at No. 3. Sundstrom also battled with Mya Smith-Dennis at No. 1, dropping a (6-3, 6-4) decision.
Luther completes the regular season with a mark of 21-6 overall and 8-0 in the IIAC. The Norse will enter the IIAC Tournament as the No. 1 seed and are scheduled to face the winner of the No. 4 Cornell and No. 5 Wartburg match-up.
