No. 16 Luther won its opening game of the NCAA III Decorah, Iowa Regional, defeating Lake Forest College 11-3 in five innings. The Norse pounded out 12 hits and scored in every inning putting crooked numbers on the score board in the second, third and fifth frames. Five of the 12 hits were doubles.
Natalie Stockman, Ashley Burrows and Anna Strien produced a combined eight RBI. Stockman, who was 2-for-4, hit a three-run home run to right-center field in the third. Burrows was 2-for-4 and drove in a run in both the second and fifth innings. Strien was 2-for-2, both doubles, driving in a run in the first and two in the second. Bailey Victoria, Addy Pender and Bailey Hocker all drove in one run.
Samantha Bratland (22-4) allowed three runs on five hits and struck out seven while securing the win in the circle.
The win gives Luther an overall record of 36-8. Lake Forest fell to 29-12.
Luther will faced Cornell College in the winners bracket at 11:00 a.m. tomorrow. Following the Luther - Lake Forest game, Cornell defeated the No. 1 seed of the regional Saint Benedict 2-1.
