No. 9 Luther and Loras split today's double header here in Decorah. In game one the Norse defeated the Duhawks 2-0 and in the nightcap were defeated by the Duhawks by a final of 2-1.
In game one, Samantha Bratland threw a two-hit shut out. Bratland faced 24 batters, walked one and struck out three. After giving up her second hit of the game in the fifth, Bratland retired the final nine batters she faced en route to her 16th win of the season against two losses.
Megan Bonnett and Addy Pender each drove in a run. Bonnett hit a double in the second that scored Pender who was on first base after a single to left field. Two frames later, Pender hit a blast over the right center field fence, her second home run of the year.
In the nightcap, Loras pitcher Emily Reilly silenced the Norse bats, allowing just four hits. Anne Strien produced the lone run of the game for the Norse with a solo home run to left field in the third.
With the score knotted up at 1-1 entering the top of the seventh, Loras manufactured the game winner with two hits, combined with two Luther errors.
The split gives Luther a league record of 6-2, 28-4 overall. Loras is now 7-5, 19-14.
Luther travels to Wartburg College for a double header tomorrow afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
