No. 8 Luther improved to 15-1 after defeating Thomas College (ME) 8-0 in five innings in the second of two games today at the PFX Spring Games in Clermont, Florida. The win was the 11th in the row for the Norse.
Courtney Cooper tossed her third shut out of the year and improved to 6-0 in the circle. Cooper faced 19 batters, allowed two hits, walked two and struck out three.
Ashley Burrows and Anna Strien drove in four of Luther eight runs. Burrows had RBIs in the fourth and fifth frames, while Strien drove in two runs with a triple in the fifth. Natalie Stockman and Addy Pender were also credited with an RBI each. Burrows, Strien and Megan Bonnett all had two hits.
Luther ended the game in the fifth frame scoring five runs on six hits. The Norse entered the inning with a 3-0 lead. The five inning victory was the sixth of the year and eighth game that has been decided prior to the seventh inning.
Tomorrow, Luther will face UW-Whitewater at 9:00 a.m. and UW-Stevens Point at 11:30 a.m. EST.
