Luther remained in second place in the Iowa Conference standings after posting a 74-73 come-from-behind victory over the University of Dubuque tonight in the Regents Center.
Trailing 31-27 at halftime, the Norse outscored the Spartans 30-14 in the third quarter and held a 57-45 lead with 10 minutes left to play. In the fourth quarter, the Spartans went into a zone defensively and pulled to within three (72-69) with 12 ticks left on the clock. Two free throws by Grayson Schroeder, who finished with nine points, sealed the deal. Dubuque's Crystal Rios made a long three-pointer at the buzzer for the final tally.
Four Norse produced double digits. Madison Spence led this group with 16. Laura Hamilton and Sydney Rehnelt both added 12 and Claire Marburger was credited with 11.
The Spartans were led by Abbey Meyer who led all scorers with 20 points. Morgan Boer and Rios finished with 14 and 12 respectively.
The win gives Luther an Iowa Conference mark of 5-2, 11-7 overall. Dubuque fell to 2-5 in league play, 4-12 overall.
Luther travels to Buena Vista University on Wednesday, Jan. 17. Start time is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
