Central College defeated Luther this afternoon in P.H. Kuyper Gym by a final of 95-86. The Norse trailed by as many as 25 points (80-55) midway through the second half and battled back and pulled to within eight (89-81) thanks to a 26-9 run. The Dutch sealed the victory making six free throws in the final two minutes of the game.
The Norse shot 42.6 percent (29-68) and out rebounded the Dutch 40-31. The Dutch shot well all afternoon connecting on 53 percent (34-64) of their attempts. The Norse made 12 three-point buckets and the Dutch made 13.
Five Norse tallied double digits. Rahul Bagga led this group with 20. He was followed by Jared Nicolaisen with 18, James Kappus with 15, Jadyn Torres with 14 and Ray Whitlock with 12.
Central was led by Malik Wildermuth who poured in a game high 32 points. Kyle Smith was next with 20, while Jamel McKnight tallied 17 and Caden Mauck chipped in 13.
The loss gives Luther a league record of 0-14, 5-18 overall. Central leveled its league record to 7-7, 10-13 overall.
Luther will play its final road game of the season on Wednesday, Feb. 14 when it will travel to the University of Dubuque. This game is scheduled to begin at 8:00 p.m.
