Luther was defeated by league leaders Nebraska Wesleyan University by a final of 82-70 tonight in the Regents Center.
Luther jumped out to a 10-point advantage (26-16) early in the first half, but NWU chipped away at the lead and pulled to within one at halftime (33-32). A James Kappus three-pointer eight minutes into the second stanza, tied the score for the fourth and final time (53-53). The Prairie Wolves put together a 25-5 run in a seven minute stretch that secured the come-from-behind victory.
Luther shot the ball well connecting on 46 percent of its attempts, that included a 10-of-22 effort from behind the three-point line. Jared Nicolaisen led all scorers with 21 points. Kappus also tallied doubld digits with 15.
NWU had four players reach double digits. This list included Deion Wells-Ross with 18, Patrick Sullivan with 16, Nate Bahe with 14 and Ryan Garver with 10.
The loss gives Luther an Iowa Conference record of 0-10, 4-14 overall. NWU improved to 8-2 in the IIAC, 17-2 overall.
Luther will wrap up its non-conference schedule this Saturday, Jan. 27 when it will host Maranatha Baptist University (WI). Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
