Luther recorded its second five-set victory of the year, defeating UW-La Crosse 3-2 this afternoon in the final match of the Wartburg Invitational. The Norse jumped out to a 2-0 lead posting set scores of 25-23, 25-20. La Crosse answered with set victories of 25-20, 25-23, sending the match in the fifth and deciding set. Luther won the fifth set 15-9.
Three Norse tallied double digit kill totals. Karissa Kime produced a team high 17, followed by Emma Veum with 14 and Anna Larson with 13. Veum was named to the six-player all-tournament team.
Sam Sixta dished out 44 assists and also had 18 digs. Natalie Cote and Kime led the team in digs with 15 each. Lauren Luoma led Luther with three ace serves. The Norse tallied 11 for the match.
The win gives Luther an overall mark of 12-8. The Norse will return to Iowa Conference play on Tuesday, Oct. 10, when they will travel to Coe College. Start time is slated for 7:30 p.m.
