The Luther College men’s tennis team closed out the regular season with an 8-1 victory against Buena Vista on Sunday, April 28 in Storm Lake, Iowa. The Norse won a pair of doubles matches and followed by sweeping all six singles matches.
Quinn Foley and James Ayer put together a dominating showing at No. 1, combining for an (8-3) win against Adam Gustad and Kyle Shade. Torstein Jystad and Aaron Ford pulled out an (8-6) victory over Cole Renken and Jason Ehrhardt at No. 2 for the second point of the day. The Beavers tallied a point)) at No. 3 doubles where Christian Price and Dillon Nevius defeated Luther’s Jason Knutson and Brian Kurtz by edging out a (9-8 (3)) win.
Ayer won by a (6-2, 6-2) margin over Shade at No. 2 while Foley blanked Ehrhardt (6-0, 6-0) at No. 4. Matthew Bellio clinched the victory with a (6-4, 6-2) win against Gustad at No. 1. Sam Cychosz cruised to a (6-2, 6-1) decision over Price at No. 5 while Matt Knutson raced past Kyle Weeden (6-0, 6-0) at No. 6. Jystad closed out the day with a (6-7, 7-6, (10-3)) win against Renken at No. 3.
The Norse finish out the regular season at 13-9 overall with a 6-1 mark in the Iowa Conference. Luther will be the No. 2 seed at the Automatic Qualifier tournament this weekend in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
