For the fourth straight match the Luther women’s tennis team grabbed a lead after doubles play, and for the fourth time in a row the Norse earned a victory, this time an 8-1 win against Grinnell.

Katy Lindstrom and Annie Whiteley remained unbeaten on the year with an (8-4) win over Emily Groth and Julia Rumley at No. 3 to put the Norse in the lead.  Grinnell briefly knotted the score at 1-1 when Hannah Feldman and Catherine Fitch held on for an (8-6) win against Luther’s Elise Allen and Maggie Helms at No. 2.  Allen and Helms rallied from a 7-3 deficit to make the score 7-6 before the Pioneer duo closed out the match.

With momentum hanging in the balance, Cassandra Chalhoub and Lola White-Baer earned a tight win at No. 1 to put Luther ahead to stay.  The Norse held a narrow lead for much of the match and won (8-6) over Shirlene Luk and Clothilde Thirouin, picking up a service break in the final game of the match.

Leading 2-1, the Norse stormed out of the gates in singles, winning the first set at all six positions.  Helms went out in front 5-0 in the opening set on her way to a (6-1, 6-2) win over Rumley at No. 5.  DePaolis was locked in a first set battle and held a slim 4-3 edge before rolling off eight of the last night games for a (6-3, 6-1) victory against Groth at No. 6.  Lindstrom provided the clinching point with a (6-2, 6-3) win over Fitch at No. 4 with Allen following just seconds later with a (6-4, 6-2) win at No. 2, defeating Thirouin.

Chalhoub completed a perfect day on the courts with her fourth victory, winning (6-4, 6-2) against Luk at No. 1.  White-Baer also won her fourth match, holding off Feldman down the stretch for a (6-2, 6-4) win at No. 3, giving the Norse a singles sweep.
