Luther was defeated by Simpson 78-73 tonight at the Cowles Fieldhouse in Indianola. The Norse held a 64-58 lead two minutes into the fourth quarter, but were outscored by the Storm 20-9 down the stretch. Simpson shot 49.2 percent while the Norse connected on 36.6 percent of their attempts. Simpson outscored Luther 46-26 in the paint and had a 34-21 advantage in bench points.
Luther was led by Claire Marburger who scored a game high 22 points. Laura Hamilton also reached double-digits with 10. Madison Spence, Grayson Schroeder and Sarah Holtz all chipped in nine.
Simpson was led by the trio of Janey Botkins with 16 points, Noreen Morrow with 14 and Victoria Hazard with 12.
Following tonight's outcome, Luther and Simpson are tied for second place in the Iowa Conference standings with records of 3-1. The Norse fell to 9-6 overall, while Simpson improved to 9-4.
Luther continues league play on the road this Saturday, Jan. 6 when it will travel to Nebraska Wesleyan University. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
