Luther improved to 9-5 and posted its fourth win in a row, thanks to a 74-69 victory over UW-La Crosse this morning at Just A Game Fieldhouse, Wisconsin Dells, Wis. The victory was a bit of sweet revenge as the Eagles posted a 62-61 come-from-behind victory over the Norse on Nov. 25, in La Crosse.
Trailing 40-36 at halftime, Luther outscored UWL 38-29 in the final 20 minutes of action, that included a 16-2 run in the final 4:42 of the third frame. The Norse trailed 55-43 and finished the third quarter holding a 59-57 advantage and never trailed the rest of the way.
The Norse shot 46 percent and dominated the boards 37-27. Luther also took advantage of the free throw line connecting on 18-of-23 attempts.
Claire Marburger led a trio of double digit scorers. Marburger was credited with 13, while Sarah Holtz came off the bench to chip in 11 and Madison Spence tallied 10. Laura Hamilton, Grayson Schroeder and Sydney Rehnelt were all credited with nine. Spence led all rebounders with eight and Rehnelt collected a career high seven.
This was the final non-conference game of the 2017-18 campaign. The Norse, 3-0 in the Iowa Conference, will resume league play at Simpson College on Wednesday, Jan. 3. Start time is 6:00 p.m.
