Luther wrapped up its non-conference schedule with a 64-63 victory over Maranatha Baptist University (WI) this afternoon in the Regents Center. The win snapped a seven-game losing streak and gives the Norse an overall record of 5-14.
Luther led by as many as 13 points with a little over eight minutes left in the ball game. MBU put together a 20-6 run and led 63-62 with 28 ticks left on the clock. Two free throws by James Kappus 10 seconds later secured the victory for the Norse.
Luther was led by the trio of Jared Nicolaisen, Kappus and Rahul Bagga. Nicolaisen led this threesome with 20 points. Kappus tallied 19 with 14 coming in the first half and Bagga chipped in 10 off the bench.
Micah Shepard led the Sabercats with 20 points that included four three-point buckets. Jonathan Book and David Lerma also produced double digits with 14 and 10 respectively.
Luther returns to Iowa Conference action on Wednesday, Jan. 31 when it will host Simpson College. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
