Luther hosted University of Northwestern (MN) for the final game on the schedule before Christmas and defeated the Eagles 72-60. The Norse led 37-22 at halftime and increased their lead to 20 (59-39) at the midway point of the second frame. The Eagles battled back and pulled to within nine (61-52), but it was as close as they would get the rest of the game.
The Norse were led by the trio of Moran Lonning, Meagan Koepnick and Anna Madrigal. Lonning led all scorers with 20 that included a 4-of-6 performance from behind the three-point line. Koepnick tallied 17 and Madrigal had 15. Both were 3-for-8 from behind the arch. Kylie Romeo and Tayler Jenks chipped in eight and seven respectively.
For the second time this year, the Norse tied the single game school record with 12 three pointers. Luther also dominated the boards out rebounding Northwestern 42-32 with 19 coming on the offensive glass.
The win gives Luther an overall record of 7-1, while Northwestern fell to 4-5.
Luther will return to action Dec. 29-30 when it will travel to Nashville, Tenn., for the Music City Classic.
