Luther wrapped up day one at the PFX Spring Games in Clermont, Florida with an 8-7 come-from-behind victory over St. Olaf College in eight innings.
Trailing the Oles 7-3 after four innings, the Norse tied the game scoring four runs on six hits in the fifth. Neither team was able to break the tie in regulation so the game was decided with the international tie breaker rule in place. Each team begins its at-bat in the extra innings with a runner on second base and no outs. The final batter from the previous inning is the runner that is placed on second and then the inning begins.
Luther was the visitors on the scoreboard and placed Blake Banowetz on second to start the eighth. Following strike outs by Addy Pender and Sierra Freeland, Megan Bonnett drove in Banowetz with a single, that proved to be the game winner, as the Oles were retired in order in the bottom of the frame.
Samantha Bratland picked up the victory in relief. Bratland pitched the final four innings and held the Oles scoreless. Bratland, who is now 6-1, gave up just two hits, walked one and struck out two.
Bailey Victoria and Ashley Burrows both drove in two runs. Victoria hit a two-run home run in the third and Burrows RBIs came in the fifth with a double to center field. Burrows double was the third of four by the Norse in the fifth. Banowetz and Pender started the four-run rally hitting back-to-back doubles. Anna Strien followed Burrows shot with a double to right-center field.
