Luther concluded a long day at the H.S. Kuyper Fieldhouse with an 8-1 victory over Central College securing its second consecutive Iowa Conference championship.
After sweeping doubles, Luther proceeded to win five of six singles matches, and finished the league scheduled a perfect 8-0.
In doubles, the No. 1 duo of Claire Christian and Jackie Cychosz remained undefeated (6-0) in league play defeating Kari Grindberg and Karleigh Schilling (8-3). No. 2 doubles Anna Pearson and Britta Pressler defeated EmmaGrace Walter and Paige Vannausdle (8-5). No. 3 doubles Kelsey Kruse and Devon Bourget posted an (8-4) victory over Ashley Maley and Madison Krumm. Pearson and Pressler (5-0) and Kruse and Bourget (7-0) were also unbeaten in league action.
in singles, Pressler moved the Norse one win away from claiming the match, when she defeated Walter in straight sets (7-5, 6-4) at No. 4. A few minutes later, Cychosz secured the victory defeating Maley at No. 1 (6-2, 6-1).
At No. 2, Christian and Grindberg had an epic three set battle, with Christian posting a (4-6, 7-6 (11-9), 12-10) win.
Kelsey Kruse also won in three sets, defeating Jenna Stewart (7-6, 3-6, 10-8).
Bourget improved to 8-4 on the year posting a straight set victory over Vannausdle (6-4, 7-6).
Central's lone win came at No. 3 where Schilling defeated Pearson (7-5, 7-6 (7-3).
The win gives Luther an overall dual meet record of 8-1.
Next weekend, Oct. 13-14, Luther will complete its fall schedule at the Iowa Conference Individual Championships. The University of Dubuque will host this event at Byrnes Park in Waterloo. The tournament features A, B and C flights in singles and A and B flights in doubles.
