Luther kept its hopes alive for at least a share of the Iowa Conference regular season schedule thanks to a 1-0 victory over Central this afternoon.
Lucas Beato scored his first collegiate goal in the 64th minute, a shot to the upper right hand corner of the Central net. Logan Martell (4), who had just entered the match assisted on the play.
The Norse applied pressure on the Dutch the entire second half and if not for the efforts of goalkeeper Tim Maggard, the Norse could have blown this match wide open. Maggard turned away four point-blank shots in the second half en route to his six saves for the afternoon.
Tommy Breen picked up the shutout, his third of the season, turning away both shots he faced.
The win gives Luther a league record of 5-1, 12-5 overall. Central fell to 2-4 in league play, 9-7-1 overall.
This coming Tuesday, Oct. 29, Luther travels to league leading Wartburg College. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. No matter what happens in the match between Wartburg and Simpson this afternoon, the Norse need to defeat the Knights on Tuesday, to secure at least a share of the regular season conference title.
