NAIA II Nationally ranked No. 15 Mount Mercy defeated Luther 66-57 tonight in Cedar Rapids. The Mustangs put together a 20-7 run during the first 10 minutes of the second half and led by as many as 13, after the first frame ended in a 34-34 tie. The Norse battled back and pulled to within six (56-62) with a little over two minutes left in the game, but it proved to be as close as they would get the rest of the game.
Michael Crocker and Zach Matos-Pritchard led the Norse offensive attack with 14 points each. Tyler Wedemeier and John Androus were next with eight points.
The Mustangs were led by the trio of Lamar Wall, Alex Coleman and Chad Underwood. Wall tallied 14 points, while Coleman and Underwood were credited with 13 and 10 respectively.
The loss drops Luther's overall record to 4-3, while Mount Mercy improved to 9-1.
Luther returns to action Friday, Dec. 7 when it will host Northwestern College (MN) at 7:30 p.m.
