It was the American Rivers Conference opener this afternoon in Carlson Stadium. Picked to win a third consecutive league title in the Preseason Coaches' Poll, the Wartburg College Knights put on a dominating performance en route to a 62-10 victory. The Knights scored touchdowns in nine of the 12 times they had the football and tallied 603 yards of total offense.
Luther scored on a 44-yard yard run by Quon Lambert with 7:16 remaining in the second quarter. Lambert's touchdown was the first of his career as well as his longest rush from scrimmage.
Jonah Zaimes added three points on the board with a 27-yard field goal at 8:34 of the third frame.
Luther recorded 351 yards of total offense, with 244 coming on the ground. Ian Kuykendall led the rushing attack with 73 yards on nine carries. Lambert with next with 66, followed by Parker Kizer with 60.
Defensively, Hayden Glynn and Bryce Neuse recorded double digit tackle totals with 14 and 13 respectively. Neuse also recovered the only fumble of the game.
The loss gives Luther an overall record of 0-3. Wartburg improved to 3-0.
