It was the Late Late Show as the original start time of 7:30 p.m. for tonight's contest was pushed back nearly two hours, due to a lightning delay that occurred just before the start of the women's game at around 5:45 p.m.
When the final buzzer sounded at 11:15 p.m., Luther had posted a 2-1 victory over Wartburg. The victory moved the Norse into a two-way tie for first place with Simpson College, who they defeated earlier this week 2-1 in overtime.
Luther's top-two goal scorers this season did all the offensive damage tonight. Brunno Colon gave the Norse an early 1-0 lead, driving a shot into the lower right corner of the net at 16:47, assisted by Andrew Avram (4). Colon's goal was his fifth of the year.
The Knights Ben Johnson (7) leveled the score at 63:38. Knights defender Garrett Grimsman was credited with the assist after his initial point blank shot just inside the box was stopped by Norse goalkeeper Carson Davenport. Davenport punched the initial blast to his right that fell at the feet of Johnson who one-timed his goal into the Norse net.
Four minutes later, Avram (5) sent a pass into the box from 40 yards out that Ben Keller flicked into the upper right corner of the Knights net. Keller's game winner at 67:17 was his sixth goal of the year.
The win gives Luther an Iowa Conference record of 4-1, 8-4-2 overall. Wartburg fell to 2-2-1 in league play, 8-3-3 overall.
Sunday, Oct. 15, Luther will complete its non-conference schedule at No. 18 Macalester College. Kick-off is schedule for 3:00 p.m.
