Luther advanced to the second round of the winners bracket of the NCAA III Whitewater Regional with a 6-4 decision over Carthage College.
Trailing 3-1 entering the top half of the fourth, the Norse scored four runs on four hits and never trailed the rest of the way. Following a lead-off single by Morgan Franklin and a double to left center by Alise Miller. Katie Wieland drove in Franklin and pinch runner Lindsey Uphoff with a singled up the middle. Two batters later, Shari Huber hit her third home run of the year over the left center field fence to cap off the inning.
Miller, who was 2-for-3, added an insurance run in the top of the sixth with a solo blast to left center.
Becca Girvan (19-5) picked up the complete game victory. Girvan allowed four runs on four hits, walked two and struck out five.
The Norse will face the top seed of the tournament host UW-Whitewater tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. This game was originally scheduled to take place at 2:00 p.m., but today's fourth and final first round game was never started due to rain. Benedictine (IL) and Illinois Wesleyan will begin tomorrow's action at 9:00 a.m.
