UW-Superior blistered the nets in the first half connecting on 56 percent of its attempts and held a 40-26 advantage at halftime en route to a 67-61 victory. The Norse battled back in the second frame holding the Yellowjackets to 27 percent and pulled to within five (54-49) with three minutes remaining, but it was as the close as they would get the rest of the way.
Statistically, both teams tallied 22 field goals. UW-Superior was 13-of-20 from the charity stripe and Luther was 9-of-11. The Yellowjackets also connected on 10-of-20 from behind the three-point line, while the Norse were 8-of-26.
Jake Martin and Nathan Meyer led the Luther attack with 18 and 15 points respectively. Martin recorded a double-double collecting a game high 10 rebounds. Cale Austin and Cody Kliethermes were one bucket shy of double figures chipping in eight points each.
The loss dropped Luther's overall record to 4-6. The Norse will wrap up their non-conference schedule on Saturday, Jan. 3 when they will travel to Mount Mercy University. Tip-off will take place at 3:00 p.m.
