Luther defeated Wartburg 56-47 tonight in the Regents Center. The win snapped a two-game losing streak for the Norse and secured a spot in the six-team Iowa Conference Tournament.
Luther led 25-22 at halftime and increased that lead to 15 twice in the second frame. The Norse made some key free throws down the stretch to secure the victory, following a 9-0 run by the Knights, that pulled them to within six with a little under four minutes left in the game.
Jake Martin produced a double-double scoring 14 points and collecting 16 rebounds. Bradley Wilkins was next with nine, followed by Nathan Meyer and Christian Wright with seven each.
Dan Van Groningen was the lone Knight to reach double digits with 11.
The win gives Luther an Iowa Conference record of 5-8, 9-15 overall. Wartburg lost its third in a row and fell to 6-7, 13-11 overall.
Luther wraps up the regular season schedule at University of Dubuque on Saturday. Tip-off will take place at 4:00 p.m. If the Norse win and Wartburg losses Saturday, Luther will be the No. 5 seed of the tournament. A reversal of this scenario and Luther will be the No. 6 seed.
