It was an offensive shoot out in Storm Lake this afternoon as Luther and Buena Vista University combined for 1,073 yards of total offense and 89 points. Unfortunately for Norse fans, the Beavers came out on top 48-41. The Norse tallied 536 yards of total offense, while the Beavers were credited with 537. The combined 89 points is a new series record, breaking the old mark of 85 (Luther 58, Buena Vista 27) set in 1991.
JJ Sirios had another big game rushing for a team best 145 yards and three touchdowns. Sirios scored on runs of 40, 24 and 3 yards. Sirios also connected on 5-of-9 pass attempts that included an 80-yard touchdown pass to Alex Hain on the game's first play from scrimmage.
Josh Vos also went over the 100-yard mark, rushing for 113 yards on 13 carries. Vos scored twice, busting loose for a 70-yard touchdown in the first quarter and a six-yard run with 43 seconds left in the game.
The Beavers were led by the tandem of running back Dylan Barrett and quarterback Bobby Brown. Barrett rushed for 264 yards on 42 carries and reached the end zone twice. Brown threw for 253 yards and four touchdowns.
The loss drops Luther's Iowa Conference record to 1-2, 4-2 overall. Buena Vista remains undefeated in league play with a mark of 3-0, 4-2 overall.
Next week, Luther will travel to No. 6 Wartburg College (3-0, 6-0). Kickoff will take place at 1:00 p.m.
