Poetry Slams

Poetry Slams

The ArtHaus Poetry Slam has become a not-to-be-missed local Decorah event, held several times a year and welcoming anyone to participate—and Luther English major writers have been active participants.

Each Slam begins with a different local featured artist, followed by the noncompetitive "Original Voices" (2 minutes or less of one's own poetry), and ending with the "Slam," where memorization and high performance is encouraged in a good-natured competition, which features an Applause-o-Meter and prizes for the highest scorers.

The ArtHaus is "Decorah's home for the arts, bringing visual, performing, and literary art together under one roof and offering creative programs for all ages," according to their website. ArtHaus offers classes in various arts, taken by many from the college community as well as the local area, and has worked creatively with Luther College in its programming.
