The annual International Fashion Show held on homecoming evening, Saturday, 27 October 2018. Obviously a very different date from last year and also during homecoming weekend, however this event was an exciting and packed one. I believe it was as large an attendance as I can remember. This night gave Luther College and its students an opportunity to display the wealth this institution possesses in diversity and talent. The night comprised models, modelling national attires from over 25 countries, formal attires as well as dance and poetry performances that amazed the audience.
Per the regular formality, I gave the welcoming address and restated the theme of the night “inclusivity”. In light of all that has occurred in the year, it is important to depict the unity that still exists among students and the respect and love that students have for each other and their cultural backgrounds. I made sure to say thanks to the Center for Intercultural Engagement and Student Success for help in setting up the night and providing us with advice on how the event should be run. The Beta Theta Omega (BTQ) sisters were instrumental in the set up of the night.
It was a great joy to witness all the hard work each individual put in to produce such a night and i am eternally grateful to the Luther community for showing up in their numbers to share the various cultures.
