CIES Weekly News, Nov. 21-27, 2021

  • The Sanford Program for Undergraduate Research (SPUR) is recruiting students who are interested in conducting research this summer in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Students underrepresented in the sciences (including underrepresented minority students, first-generation college students, individuals from lower income backgrounds or rural communities, students with disabilities, and Veterans or members of the Armed Services) are encouraged to apply. Application deadline is January 31, 2022. Educational and housing stipend included.  Apply here.
  • Paid Fellowship Opportunity for Sophomores! JP Morgan Chase presents the Advancing Black Pathways (ABP) Fellowship and the Advancing Hispanics & Latinos (AHL) Fellowship for Summer 2022. The AHL Fellowship Program and the ABP Fellowship Program are committed to providing early professional development to students from communities underrepresented in the financial industry. Both Fellowships target sophomore students (a year younger than traditional interns) who self identify as Black, African American, Hispanic, or Latinx. The Fellowships are structured as a six-week summer experience, in 2022 students will spend three weeks completing Firmwide programming and then three weeks with one of our four Commercial Bank programs. Successful completion of the Commercial Bank Summer Fellowships is intended to lead to a CB summer internship offer (for 2023). Applications will remain open until December 29th. Find more information about Advancing Black Pathways here. Follow this link to learn more about the Advancing Hispanics and Latinos Fellowship.
  • International Students graduating in December or January: Remember that if you want to apply for OPT, you should set up an appointment with Wintlett or Clara soon. Email [email protected] to schedule a time.
  • International Students: Please remember to always use your legal name (as printed in your passport) on all official documents. For example, if the name on your vaccine card does not match the name in your passport, you may have trouble at the port of entry into the U.S., since proof of vaccination is now required for foreign nationals entering the U.S. Let CIES know if you have questions.
  • International Students traveling for break:  The Biden administration has announced new rules that prohibit unvaccinated foreign nationals from entering the United States. If you have not been fully vaccinated with one of the approved vaccines, you should plan to stay in the U.S. over break to avoid being denied entry back into the country. As per Luther’s updated Covid policy, there is NO quarantine requirement for fully vaccinated individuals arriving from outside the United States. You will, however, be required to take a Covid test on Day 3 after arriving in the U.S. Details regarding how to get tested and submit your results will be provided at a later date. We encourage you to consider buying a ticket on one the Luther shuttles from Minneapolis or Rochester airports, as CIES will not be providing airport transportation for returning students. If you plan to stay on campus during break, please watch for an email from Residence Life about how to apply for break accommodation. If you DO plan to travel internationally over break or J-term, please look for future emails from me. We may need to request travel information from you, as well as provide details about the required Covid-19 test on Day 3 after arrival to the U.S.
  • CIES is not coordinating transportation to and from the airport for winter break or J-term. Luther does offer a break shuttle service to Rochester / Minneapolis and to Madison / Rockford / Chicago. Dates and times of shuttles can be found here. You can purchase tickets for the shuttles at the ticket office.
