Class of 2012 Fall 2019 Letter

Fall 2019

Class of 2012!

It promises to be an exciting year for Luther as we inaugurated our eleventh president, Dr. Jenifer K. Ward. President Ward joins the Luther community with more than three decades of experience as an educator, scholar, and academic leader. In a message to the Luther community, President Ward said, Our work together must be strategic, collaborative, creative, andmost importantlymust articulate what it means to be both grounded in Decorah, Iowa with a face to the world, and set goals for how we can adapt Luthers past and present for a sustainable future.

The past couple of months Ive thought a lot about my Luther roots - the education, the people, the memories, and Decorah. Those roots ground me and provide the foundation to face the world and spread my wings - wings that are going to take me to the other side of the world as the Asia Pacific Executive for Epic (healthcare software company based out of Verona, Wisc.) this Fall. While its a little nerve-racking to leave family, friends, and the familiarity of life in Madison, I find myself routinely grateful for my Luther roots, specifically the life lessons, friendships, love for learning and adventure that will accompany me (and my partner in crime, Tyler) on this journey. Our Luther College experiences give us a leg up when taking on new challenges, no matter the size or distance they carry us over. Im excited to see these same ‘roots’ nourished for future Luther classes to come with President Ward.

A self-described extrovert and lover of art, film, and literature, President Ward started her duties at Luther July 1, and her official inauguration took place November 13.

A winter favorite of mine that connects me to campus, music, and a collective voice is Christmas at Luther. This years theme is Whom Angels Greet with Anthems Sweet, and takes place December 58.

As you face new chances to spread your wings, remember your roots in Decorah - visit the campus, understand President Wards vision for Luther, and use your voice and support as alumni to ensure that the place that grounded us in Decorah and taught us to face the world will do the same for future students!

Be good -
