Class of 1981 Fall 2019 Letter

Fall 2019

Dear Classmate,

Once again, we have a change in Class Agents. Thank you to Mary Sundet Jones and Pat Graetz Jensen for keeping us informed and connected for the past few years. They were ready to step down, and Pamela Norris Phillips and I agreed to take over. You may remember us as roommates in Brandt and Miller, and as cheerleaders our freshman year. Pam was a Spanish major with an emphasis in music, and I was an English Education major with an emphasis in psychology. Now, we are both grandmas! Pam is retired and enjoying lake life in Alexandria, Minn. where she and her husband are active in their church and community. I am also enjoying Minnesota lake life, with no retirement plans for at least the next couple of years. This fall, I will be teaching part-time in two different schools (as a Makerspace Educator and as a Personalized Learning Coordinator), along with some occasional technical writing.

Keep sending your updates to the Alumni Office, or to us. We love hearing about our classmates! There might not be as many job changes, moves, or marriages at this point in our lives, but it’s still fun to hear what people are doing (grandbabies, travel adventures, volunteer/community involvement, new hobbies). Did you know that there is an online alumni directory? You can find it at:

It promises to be an exciting year for Luther. In November, the college inaugurated its eleventh president, Dr. Jenifer K. Ward. President Ward joins the Luther community with more than three decades of experience as an educator, scholar, and academic leader after serving, most recently, as provost and dean of the college at Centenary College in Shreveport, Louisiana. President Ward started her duties at Luther July 1, and her official inauguration took place November 1–3.

Homecoming weekend this year was October 4-6. Looking down the road, our 40-year reunion (yikes!) will take place in two years, so put that on your radar for future travel plans. For information on other upcoming alumni events, checkout

And, finally, keep in mind that Christmas at Luther takes place December 5–8. This year’s theme is Whom Angels Greet with Anthems Sweet. Contact [email protected] for more information.
